American Ideals
The american ideal is the idea of creating a prosperous future by doing something you love. My claim complicates this idea. I say this because when people think of the american ideal they think of the american dream which is very delusional. They don't realize that there is a lot of adversity you have to face and work you have to do to get anywhere in america. I believe that my claim shows that it takes guts to get anywhere in america. |
American Character
When the idea of american character is brought up I think of very rebellious individuals going against society. My claim extends the idea of american character. This is because my claim can be broken down to show that the people who are rebelling are usually doing it for a fit cause. The book Huckleberry Finn is a great example of a individual rebelling against society . This is because the main character Huck Finn goes against society and help free a slave. Although throughout most of the book Huck doesn't realize he is doing the right thing. this is because Huck has a deformed conscience. |
Tragic Impulse
Tragic impulse is when you make a decision that leads to another decision that eventually leads to self destruction. My claim complicates this idea. This is because when you are making these decisions you are trying to create a better life for your self but in reality you are creating a worse life for yourself. This can be shown through Willy lowman in Death by a Salesmen. Willy doesn't realize that he is creating a worse life for himself and his family until it is to late. This shows that when the common man is delusional he doesn't know he is until he has created a terrible situation. |
